Ok, it's official. Went to talk to one LFS in the area to see if I could trade my tank for a pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby. They said yes :D

A much more appropriate fish for a 29g. The tang is still very small but a few events have put a damper on a tank upgrade for a little while.... Time to concede......

Best of luck, you might put some food inside a net to entice it in.

I think you've heard this before: don't spread anecdotal evidence that's contrary to the experience 97% of people who have tangs have had and know very well - that they don't do well in small tanks over extended periods of time, given their psyche, eating and swimming habits.. This crud shouldn't be spread around to confuse newbies into doing something they have nearly no chance of success at, especially since an animal's life is at stake.

The reason I got the tang in the first place is because it was the size of a half dollar and getting beat up by its tank mates. I got it at a steal and plans were in the works to upgrade the tank rather quickly. Life happened and the new, larger tank is on hold for now so I think it's only fair to bring the tang back to give it a more suitable home/more comfortable life. He isn't too big now but will be and I don't plan on waiting until he is to take action at the expense of his quality of life.
He will be replaced by a more appropriate fish for the tank that I have. I'm just glad the LFS agreed!!

How about a some of the smaller wrasses? 6 line wrasse (although they can be bullies), a pair of clowns, fire fish, basslets, cardinals. Any of these would be good for a 29g

    I currently have:
1 firefish - adult now, got it as a baby
1 tailspot blenny - still quite small
1 blue tang - half the size of my palm (girl so really small hands, lol)
    1 mandarin dragonet - adult

And of course various corals and inverts. Since my other fish are pretty docile I'm trying to shy away from more aggressive fish. I had a clown, gave him back to the LFS asfter about a year of having him because he was a bully and I couldn't let a $3 fish attack a $40 fish!

Tang recapture successful. He is sitting in the bag, floating in the tank until I'm ready to leave for the LFS. I also packaged up a couple zoa frags for them. I just have too many.

The rest of the tank is none too pleased about the events of this afternoon. we'll see how everything goes. Ended up having to remove a couple of big rocks so I disturbed things a bit but everyone else looks on....coco worm looks a little withered but it will be just fine. Now just waiting on the mandarin to relax.
