So hears the deal. I just got an 8 gallon biocube about a month ago. All is going well in the tank so i decided to put two true percula clownfish in my tank. I bought them together from the same tank and they were the only two. One is a little bigger then the other. Now on to what i have noticed lately. The larger one was like twiching then dart then it would twich again the dart in the other directions but not any farther then an in or two. I also noticed that the bigger one at night would sit at the top of the aquarium swimming up and down from the top of the tank then down about an inch and repeat that for a long time. Than today i noticed the smaller one shaking his tall really fast at the bigger one like right in his face. Please help me figure out whats going on? Thank you in advance

Clownfish are born male, all of them. Then as they mature they pair off. The dominant one will become female.

    Clownfish mated pair?

Thats what i figured but at such a young age my little one is a little over a half in and the bigger one just about an inch. How long does this go on before the will be a mated pair and start to mate? Will having an anemone help any or does it mater? They havent hosted to anything the just kinda chill at the top back of the cage. Any advice?

Just have to play it out until one admits defeat. It could take a week it could take a few months.
I wouldnt add an anemone, it will only fuel the battle even furthur.

Actually no. Clownfish are born completely unsexed. The dominant ones become male first, then female. Next in line is the male. Any fish left over from that pair (if you were keeping more than 2) remain unsexed. Clowns can also change between male and unsexed, but once they are female, they cant change back.

Will the hermits eat my eggs?

Ok thanks:) My next question is what if they end up laying eggs? I have only the two clowns, 8 hermits, and seven snails. When and if they do lay eggs will my other animals eat them? I really dont have the money to set up another tank to keep them safe. i figured that the anemone would do that but on the other hand i would know they were mated when she does let him in correct?
