Certainly could be the case, it's a long time... Usually over acclimation issues though are the result of CO2/O2 regulation problems due to hyperoxic and hypercapnic conditions from being in the bag too long. These conditions result from extended periods of travel though, not from your lfs to your home. However, there may be other scenarios that could occur, such as ammonia build up. This would be the result of poor water conditions at the lfs though, not a general acclimation issue. I've seen a lot of lfss though, so, I'd say it's certainly possible..

Actually yes, it happens that gfo can sometimes lower alkalinity. I wouldn't recommend using GFO for the sole purpose of lowering alkalinity though. Usually it's best to just let alk come down on it's own gradually. It happens pretty quickly. But yes, GFO, will also lower it.

Thats good to know! im not super worried about the alk. I'll pick up some GFO when I go to the pet store which I realllllly need to college work and reef tanks is just too much sometimes.

Also, should add, the alk certainly did not harm your fish... and I just double checked the conversion and you are at 11 not 12, even 12 isn't really that high, 11 is good.
