Hi, Today I got 4 guppies for my freshwater tank. I was giving it a clean when I took off the background, I wasn't the original owner of the tank so I'v never taken the background off the tank before. When I took it off, little pieces of what look liked flakes of dry white paint just exploded all over the tank, I took aboout 80% of the water out and changed it but the little flakes are still all over the tank. A guppy has already died from the stress and I have a feeling the tank has come to an end. the fish seem fine but the tank looks disgusting right now with all the flakes floating around in the water. I don't know what else to do, But i'v got a feeling ill wake up in the morning and the lot of them will be dead.

the background was physically inside of the tank? paint?

wow, sorry for your losses. id tear the tank down, and scrape out whatever the heck the previous owner attached to the inside glass....

im going to have to guess that the previous owner was 'new' and assumed that you adhesive the background to the inside glass instead of the back of the tank. there are several ways to adhere a background and commonly people use tape to hold it in place but they do sell that adhesive for backgrounds at the petstores.....

Yes correct. and when I tried getting the dirty background off the back of the inside of the tank it all went flaky and exploded all over the tank.

Good to hear tho, I did a major water change, the filter seemed to have done the work over night. and my pregnant guppy had her fry. HURRAY! and most importantly the flaky stuff that was still in there all settled and the tank is all back to normal. :cheesy:
