I just purchased a aquaculture candy coral and some green and purple encrusting coral. Both are growing on plugs and I am having a hard time finding placement in my tank. Is there any way I can shave or shape the plug to fit into a small hole in my Live Rock , also how can I get the coral to actually grow on the rock and not just keep growing on the frag plug. They are very ugly to look at and would like to have them concealed by my LR if I can find a way to either remove the plug safely or shape it to a smaller diameter. Anyone have suggestions?

so am i assuming everyone here just drops the ugly plugs in their tank? there has to be an easier way to get coral placement exactly where you want for it to live in the tank

i am sure you can shave off parts of the plug, this shouldn't be to difficult. The Corals I have bought were not on plugs, so I used some glue and attached them to Live rock

You can use fishing line to secure them once you find good placement. I've only bought frags on small rock like pieces but think it would be easy enough to cut off what you don't want from the plug.

The candy canes should just pop off of the plug. Add a good amount of super glue gel to the bottom of the stalk and place it in a hole in the live rock. With the encrusting piece, break off the bottom of the plug and glue the disk part to the rock. In a few months you will not know the difference.

is super glue safe for an aquarium? seems pretty harsh of a substance to add to the tank! i tried popping the coral off the plug but it was pretty tough and i didnt want to break the bone stalk the candycane is growing from. so for now ive got the plug wedged in a crevice :/
