Added a fresh batch of GFO the other day and within 36 hours this acro died out at the base. There's no doubt it's dead and not bleached. No other stonies were affected or showed signs of stress. My ORA red gonnipora was the only other coral that showed signs of stress - it was basically a red skeleton for 5 days but it has since polyped out again.

Here's the coral as of this morning:

What do you guys think? Go ahead and frag it out or wait and see if the necrosis stops?

Wow, that sucks. Sorry to see that. I'm no expert, but now that you ask the question, would fragging it put any more stress? or is it ok to cut a piece off and not cause any harm to the main body.....My reason behind the idea is that maybe you could do both. Frag a piece off that doesn't have necrosis on it, and you can save the creature that way, and you might possibly have a chance with the main body. But, if cutting causes stress, then it's either one direction or the other. Once again, no expert. Just trying to throw some questions out there for ya.

I would make one frag 1cm above the bleaching part just in case. That way you have a healthy frag either way.

I agree. If you got RTN somehow it could kill that whole colony really fast.

    Thanks guys.

It's definitely not RTN. I've dealt with RTN in a colony and the tissue peeled away and was over with in 24 hours. This is more like STN as this is the 10th day it has been like this. On day one the areas were a super light tan, the following day it was white. The slow movement is what is making me think I need to go ahead and frag the whole colony. If I can get the healthy tissue away from the forward moving necrosis I think I could save all of it that hasn't died. I may wait one more day and see if it continues its progress. If it does I'll go ahead and clip/mount it all.

Only bright side is I'll have some frags to sell in a few weeks :-/

Either way is fine but the main thing is that you fix the problem. My preference is to not frag the acro until I am positive that it is healthy and is showing signs of new growth.

+1 the thing is the coral might completly die in one night the die off will happen when you turn out the lights and the ph and oxygen drops make a frag, place the coral under direct flow use a 2 part alk and cal at night to keep levels steady i hope it makes it or start dripping kalkwasser right now and through the night use iodine also it seems to help my acro when there in trouble.
