-1. are you referring to personal experience?
I have two puffers a dog faced, a porcupine and a large volitan and two tangs, no nipping at all. Its mostly the trigger fish that nip at lions not puffers IME.

at the beginning it was the opposite also, the lion was trying to eat the puffers. But gave up after a day.

Fair question NC--yes and no as far as my experience. My cousin had a tank with several puffers and he had some serious computability issues for quite some time in trying to find fish that played well together. I can't recall what he ended up going with, but he eventually found something that worked. I do not believe he had tried a Lion though...

Another friend in college had a Lion and also had a difficult time finding compatible tank mates for him. Basically any fish that was big enough to not be eaten by the Lion ended up being fairly aggressive to the Lion itself. I can't recall if one of them was a puffer or not. I am thinking a cow fish? Ah, I don't know it was so long ago.

In any event, I think it is important to consider that each fish is an individual and may not follow the generalizations we make about compatibility. I think it is awesome that you have found fish that work out together, and perhaps that could be possible in this case too, but its also important to know that it may not work out the same for every individual of the species.

dinkanber--if you are really interested in the Lionfish, beyond doing research online at liveaaquaria.com and such to identify compatibility aspects, you may also want to look up Incognito here on 3reef. She is building a "things with stings" tank and seems to have some pretty extensive experience with Lionfish and others. She may be able to give you some ideas to consider as far as other fish options. Maybe send her a PM or something and see if she can help you out.

    Hope that helps!
