I am setting tp a 55 gallon and was on Aquarium Fish: Tropical Freshwater Fish and Saltwater Fish for Home Aquariums and am going by what they say for requirements. Rule of thumb in 1 inch per 5gallons right?

Well the snowflake eel is maxed out at 24 inches and they have it down for being ok for a 55gallon. Is my math off or does this not apply for eels
    ?

i am wanting to do a smi aggressive tank with a

    Snow Flake
    Moomhasa Lion
    Blue Spotted Puffer

is that to many/big of fish for a 55

There are lots of "rules of thumb" out there, but really deciding what amount of fish is more complex than that. You really need to consider the overall mass of the fish and the amount of waste they produce. For example, 24" of neon gobies will not have nearly the amount of mass or produce the amount of waste the eel will.

I've never had an eel or a lionfish, but I do now that they produce a lot of waste. Although the lionfish does not need as much feeding as other fish (you should not feed them on a daily basis for sure) and so the rule of thumb you reference may not be as useful. Also, as far as the puffer goes, they can grow to be fairly large, eat a lot more and produce a lot of waste.

Based on all that, I would say that you propose may be more bioload than a 55 gallon could handle.

Also, if you plan to have any snails/hermits they will likely become lunch to at least the puffer (not sure about the eel).

This is just MO, so i will be curious to see if anyone else has the same read on this as I do.

about our tank stock pufferfish are not good tankmates for lionfish because pufferfish are big fin nippers and he could not resist biting the lionfish's fins.also lionfish are very passive fish and pufferfish can be very aggressive and might pick on the lionfish

I like tomato clowns. you would need aggressive fish or the clowns could rip them apart.

Id say the lion and eel are ok but the puffer may nip the lion.as far as bioload you could bulk up on filtration to compensate.but I tend to overstock so take it with a grain of salt lol
