He lives in Cali. They don't have winters like we do over here.

Time to get a screen for the top of your tank. I can't imagine flies landing and dying in your tank being a good thing at all...they carry all kinds of funk.:-/

ya, california has warmer winter then most states lol.
Around 50 in night, 60 in morning, at times even 70 in the noon.

Anyway, ya before I had biocube 29 gallon stock hood, so there was no way for a bug to get in the tank, since now its open tank, im worried :x
But i do have to get something on top of there to protect my wrasse from being suicidal.
I just hope flys dont get in my MH fixture, ugh i would hate to clean that

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    +1.

Anything on your hands such as oils and soap residue is going to do far worse things to the tank.

I get the occasional spider, and my clown eats it.

my thought too. I often take the wings off crane flies (commonly called (incorrectly) mosquito eaters or squeeter eaters - they don't eat mosquitos - in fact they don't eat anything at all!) and put those in. Clowns seem to find them interesting and yummy.

I get Flies, Spiders, stink bugs and even the occasional bee... its all good -- it's that one fateful day that a mouse got into my refugium .... ugh ! insects in my opinion and experience have no harm at all to your set up
