so do you think i could keep some seahorses and mandarin goby in a fluval edge? its a pretty slow moving current and low lighting so i think the seahorses would be ok. also i would just buy pods constantly to keep the mandarin alive. i already run a 34 gallon so a few extra gallons in a smaller tank would be easier to maintain. thanks guys.

A mandarin won't work in that small of a tank. Maybe a dwarf seahorse but that may be pushing it as well

Please, please do not get the mandarin. He will not survive. Not only is the tank volume too small, but you are severely under-estimating the Mandarin's appetite. He/She will dessimate a pod population in a tank that small within a day or two. Even adding pods at a daily rate will not be sufficient. They are said to eat upwards of 100-300 a DAY. To put it in perspective: I have 110 gallons of water. I have been building a pod population for months. My glass is covered and some are in access of a cm long. That is a sufficient population...for now...

LOL wrong thing to say. (Mandrin) If your looking for the best advise on mandrin in a nano tank suggest you read it from what others have wrote. Yes it has been done. And yes it can be done. But as for a forum being a source of info on it. There are too many opinions on any reef forums to get a good answer and your going to watch this post go over the wall with all of them.

When you mix Mandrin Dragonet & Nano in the same sentence you will find the forums explode with advise that is point of view.

Can it be done & has it been done for long periods. Yes
Will you hear the word. Starve? Yes in almost every other post.
Can they be trained to eat other foods and pods. Yes
Is it hard to train them to eat frozen foods. Yes
Is it gonna be a pain to do. Yes

But I have faith in people that can read. So my advise would be to do just that :)

Sorry for the negative comments but sometimes I think people have no faith.

i've actually seen quite a few fluval edge's with sea horses. Seems like a popular thing now because of the size of the tank and there isnt much flow to disturb them if you only keep the stock filter. I haven't done it so i can't give first hand advice but i do know that those with sea horses have complained that its hard to keep the nitrates down because hippocampi are such messy eaters.

I trained one to take frozen after around 10 days, but it become a right pain to make sure it was getting fed every day as i had to do it with a modded air line and syringe and turn all pumps off. sold it on to a much bigger tank in the end.

That is not feasible. The Mandarin would have to be trained onto frozen foods to survive. They readily accept Nutramar Ova. It's not hard, just takes a little patience.

Filtration will be a big issue in the Edge. To keep the Mandarin and Sea Horses happy will take a lot of work, every day. Just about anything can be done with enough dedication. You have to decide for yourself if that's what you want.

Wow. Thanks everybody. I've seen mandarins in nanos before so i just didn't know exactly what everyone would say. I've tried to keep one before in my 34 but it died shortly after I got it home and I don't want to kill another one. I still might try the seahorses, but maybe I'll wait awhile and see what the new nanos come out with. Thanks again for all the opinions.
