Well here is a short version of what's going on. I have a vortech mp40w. I absolutely love it...when it's working. I have had the pump for 6 months and have already replaced the wet side several times. Ecotech has been wondeful with their customer service but supposedly there is a manufacturing defect with the driveshaft and it is causing the wetsides to seize up. Anyways...I am thinking about buying a tunze 6105 with the singlecontoller for it. Does anyone have any experience with the new gen tuze pumps? Quality? Reliability? etc... I just can't keep changing the flow every 2-3 weeks. I want something I don't have to worry about. Thanks ahead for any feedback.

Since nobody else has said anything yet here's my 2c.

I haven't heard of this about the MP40's that's unfortunate. But that said Tunze is one of the most reliable, if not the most reliable names in powerheads (and I use vortechs :) ) from what I can tell. I wouldn't hesitate to use one of their powerheads.

That said, I would give Ecotech another chance to fix it, although I know its been a hassle. I can't imagine their drive shafts will be bad forever.

Thanks. It's hard right now to stick with the vortech b/c I can't be fixing a pump every two weeks. I have already been through 4 wetsides and I just can't wait anymore. I need something I can install and not worry about it. I am not saying that I am going to never use the vortech again but for now I need something reliable and with similar function.

Yeah I can imagine its frustrating having to deal with that, seems bizarre that it would be taking so long to resolve the issue but who knows.

To save yourself some money you could maybe look at getting a modded maxijet on a short timer for the time being until Ecotech gets it sorted out rather than dropping another $400 or so on a Tunze+controller. Maybe even a Koralia 4 would do as a temporary replacement although I wouldn't put it on a timer. Might not be ideal but its an option anyway.

+1. I run modded maxi jets through a JBJ controller and LOVE it. Like them so much I am replacing the rest of my Koralias with them.

Thanks for the replies. I am running a modded maxi-jet on it right now while I wait on parts from eco-tech. I also went ahead and ordered a 6105 and controller. I am going to see how it works and see if I am going to just keep it by itself and sell the mp40 once the problem is resolved, run the tunze until the vortech is fixed and then sell the tunze, or keep both in the long run. Who knows...sigh.
