Float switches rarely fail compared to float valves. It would take two switches though, one to turn the ATO on and one to turn it off. You can also add a third switch as a high level backup which is what I have for redundancy.

yeah the plan was to have one turn on the system and one shut it off if the level gets too high

If you want one for too high you need 3 switches. ON-OFF-Emergency HIGH, it requires two switches for normal operation and 3 with a backup.

I also have three switches. Same one on/off, one high off, and one high emergency. Never can be to safe.

I use only one but really want to add another for emergency. I haven't had it fail and overflow but I did have it fail and not turn on the ato

I think three sounds like a good safe number, where do you buy them ? cheap ebay ones?
