Ok, so I think I am finally moving forward with my peacock mantis tank. My initial plan was for a 20g, but that looks like its falling thru, but on the good side a fellow local reefer club member has a 30 gal with 2 x t5, and the stand can fit a 20h sump for equipment. I also finally found a place that gets peacock's in on a semi-regular basis.

Ultimate goal is a mantis tank with some softies, I'm thinking probably large variety of zoa's on the larger rocks, maybe other assorted softies. If I have to upgrade lights I'll probably lean towards LED's rather than replacing lights as it will be a good test of my skills in case I go LED's on my 75.

Anyways to the quesion at hand. The tank will have to of course get a couple fish just to give it some life and movement. Off the top of my head I am thinking a flame angel and maybe a couple blue reef chromis. I think the orange and blue will give a pretty good color catching combo to each other. Plus they are both fairly active water column dwelling fishes so they will be up a little higher from the danger zone so to speak. ha ha. I dont want to go the standard yellow tail damsel you always see in mantis tanks.

yes I know there are varying opinions on tank size for a flame, some say 30, some say 55, some say 75 so I am still kicking that idea around, they are just a very attractive fish to me.

anyone else have any other suggestions? I'm looking for fairly active in the water column fish.

and yes I do know I need to let the tank cycle when set up, looking for fish stocking suggestions.

I don't have any experience with Mantis Shrimp except on the pest side of things. I've lost a lot of fish and inverts to them. I don't know that anything would be safe to put in with one, but again, I'm no expert on the matter.
