I've always love my fish, sitting back and enjoying them. I've been reading a lot of the posts though, and wondered.......Are we actually more stressed out because we have reef tanks?

There is no right or wrong answer but we watch the temp, ph, kh, etc, etc, so closely waiting for something to go wrong. Then something happens....algae bloom or whatever and we are stressed trying to figure out what happened !! A fish gets sick........WHAT DO WE DO ??? It just seems funny that it seems people get so worked up over our beloved reef tanks that we freak out if something goes amiss.

Just a thought for the day.

Worrying about temp, pH, kH, etc is much less stressful than worrying about job, economy, will I have enough retirement, how am I going to afford to send kids to college, etc...

There are definetly more important things in life then a reef tank BUT when everything else seems to be going smooth my reef tank can screw a weekend up pretty quick.

Got to say I am on the stressed side of this hobby so far. I'm watching things pretty closely and all params are in order... but I keep losing things. I do a "head count" every time I get home fully expecting something else to have died. I'm sure it will get better.... thats what my team of therapists are telling me anyway... ;)

+1. Thats an excellent way to put it. And for me thats a good thing, specially as of late.
But the stress comes and goes. When everything is fine its very relaxing. But when everything is not fine, I completely flip out over it. And every once in a while I get all stressed out over nothing. Say when a coral just didnt open quite right one night. It happens, and doesnt neccasarily mean anything is wrong. And I know that. But that kind of thing still stresses me out. I'll be checking params 3, 4 times a night ::)

I enjoy my tank more then I stress about it. I have a teenager in my home so the "distraction" as some one put it is wonderful!!!
