I was looking at my female black and white clownfish today, she has not been as active as she has been, i think it's just from moving the rocks around the other day. I have only had her and for 4 days. When looking at her to make sure there is nothing noticably wrong, i noticed that i can see some of her bone structure i guess that's how you would say it? i see Two risin lines on the front half of her body. Since i am totally new and these are my first saltwater fish, i don't know how to tell if the fish is skinny or not, but i'm like 90% that she is, and maybe that is why she has not been swimming as actively as she had been during her first few days. I plan on feeding 3 times a week. I worry about over feeding both her and the male because they are the only things in the tank and don't want my parameters to shoot up high.

How much more should i feed them? I give them a pretty thin slice of frozen mysis and brine shrimp soaked in tank water and garlic. I don't want to loose her by her being skinny. So should i drastically up their feed? The male seems to be ok, right now i'm just worried about the female

I personally feed my fish twice a day, flakes once and then some kind of frozen once. I don't put a lot in. I watch to see how much they can eat at one time and then only put that amount in. It doesn't amount to a lot of food a day. Right now I have two fish and only go through about 2 cubes a week, if that. They are both fat and happy and haven't had a problem with params.

so i just fed them a little more than usuall, they both went after it, although they both seem like slow eaters. I feed with pumps an skimmer off so they have a chance to get it. I haven't even gone through half a cube of each yet. I'll probably get flakes this weekend when i go to buy water. I'm just hoping she recovers. I'll start feeding twice a day

The flakes are just the basic marine flakes, OSI brand I think. I don't turn my pumps off when I fed, but I only do a little at a time and then add a little more after they catch what I put in. I think they sometimes like the thrill of chasing after something when it hits the return.

As far as fattening her up quicker, I know there is some supplements that you can add to your food the increases the nutritional value. Not sure of the exact name of it but I know some other people around here use it.

ok. i think my male would be able to handle chasing the food with pumps on, but the female barely swims while the pumps are on when i'm not feeding. But i do that with my puffer and he loves the hunt.

and i'll try to check out the supplements

How long does it take them to eat the food you put in the tank?

Just curious but you said they were only 4 days old right? Did they look skinny at the LFS when you bought them and what have their eating habits been like since you got them?

a couple minutes, they eat it all, but are just slow going to it and seem to like to take their time, i'm hoping they will catch the food quicker because at the rate their eating, once new fish get in there, there would be none left for them
