    it shouldnt affect it too much, but glass lid restrict gas exchange, you can still do this, but drill some holes in it as well for air and co2 exchange :) either that or use egg crate

    I use egg crate in my fresh tanks. The only issue is sometimes it makes shadows.

    After switching from eggcrate to mesh, I would say eggcrate blocks a lot of light. I'd recommend against it.

    Also, having used glass, the salt creep from splashes can dirty it pretty quickly. I'd personally say the way to go is mesh.

    ill look into making myself a mesh top. when you say mesh do you mean plastic or metal? wouldn't metal erode?
