i agree with everyone else. ammonia = 0, never replace a fish without figuring out why the other died, and yes airstone to increase oxygen. get the tank to cycle and allow the proper bacteria to establish then try readding a fish.

37 gallon, running for about 3 months. there are 3 cherry barbs, 3plattys, 3 guppies, and 3 glofish now. So basically, what everyone is saying is too just wait it out. Besides a water change (about 20% right?), what else should I do? Should I be adding any chemicals? And I should get a airstone right?AS far as water change, if my levels are still high the following day, do you do another change?

For freshwater, there should be no problem doing big water changes back to back. You should have an airstone (or a bar; I liked them better with my old FW tanks). You shouldn't need chemicals, but it's weird you have an ammonia of 6.0 after 3 months....did you just add the fish all at once or something? I would try putting in some Cycle; that should at least help your tank get moving on bio filtration.

didnt get airstone tonight, the store closed early. did a 30% h2o change. levels now at ph 7.6, nitrate0, nitrate 0, and ammonia ~4. a friend said tetra makes a product that lowers ph reduces ammonia and has live bacteria in it along with minerals, has anyone used this?

did another water change last pm. ammonia was about 6. i cant figure it out, gave a friend a few fish to lower the load. right now I have 4 glo fish, 2 red barbs, 2 platties, and 2 guppies. When I went down this am however the water was very cloudy, so much that you really had to be close to the glass to see all the fish? any ideas guys of what this is, I didnt get a chance to test yet!

You MUST cycle your tank long enough until all parameters are perfect and the nitrogen cycle has been completed! I hope you learn from this.... not that any of us have not made that mistake but you have a certain responsability... after all we are dealing with life animals and they should be treated accordingly!
