well i have a 55 and i recently had cichlids and i was going to get this tank for them but i really got bored with them since my local pet store doesnt have much of a variety . but anyhow i got this tank and im doing saltwater and ive been doing my homework about how to get it set up its already been cycling for a month and i have 60 pounds of sand and about 15 pounds of rock i really want to do a reef. i cant realy find any sites to tell me actually how many fish i can keep but im goin to tell you guys what i have picked out so some insight good or bad is needed to help a fellow reefer.

i know i cant keep all of them there just some ideas

    FISH
flasher wrasse or sixline could i do both?
    blue reef chromis
doctor tang or blue hippo orange shoulder . can i really keep either of those ?
    neon goby
tiger goby, yellow watchmen, singapore shrimp goby
    vampire pseudo

SHRIMP dont go crazy on me but i like this guy
peppermint < < ^ purple reef lobster is he really reef safe?
    cleaner shrimp < < ^
    corall banded < < ^
pistol shrimp is he safe with the others and would the tiger goby do what the watcmen goby would and develop that relatioship with the pistol

    snails MISC
cerith sand sifting star, cleaner clam, a couple herms not more than 4 like blueleg or scarlets nussarius

o yeah my lighting is the t5 flourescent system actinic blue and i have the regular compact lights that came with the tank is that good lighting or its not enough.

    CORALS
bubble coral not the bubble tip anenome
    hammer coral
    yellow leather coral
    trumpet
    pagoda cup
    colt
    fuzzy green mushrooms
would like sea grass even look right in there like maidens hair?
ricodea green or orange and maybe a group of zoos

i would appreciate the help i know its some real reef vets out there ha come help a lil brine shrimp out

Ok, sounds pretty good, but a few things. For the fish, all of them would work, except a 60 is too small for any tang, especially a Hippo or Naso. A Hippo needs at very least 90 gallons, probably more like 120. Naso Tangs need more than that. Coral Banded Shrimp will hunt things in your tank, so I personally wouldn't recommend one. A 6 line will likely kill a flasher. The Corals sound good, but I'm not familiar with the pagoda cup.

Anyway, sounds like a good setup. Keep researching and have fun.

The first thing you need to think about before going too far: did you ever medicate the tank while it was a FW tank, specially with copper?
It would be really hit or miss if a pistol would be safe or not. Some are, some arent. Same goes for forming a relationship. I would not get a lobster. I know 3 people that have tried them and all three had it kill fish/inverts. If you get a coral nanded you probably wont be able to keep any other shrimp with it. Also, I find peppermints really boring (they are nocturnal and will spend all day hiding).
You can keep a small hippo as long as youre comfortable exchanging them out as they grow.
Are the T5's only actinic? What's the total combined watts of all the lights?

You'll need more rock. I've got almost a hundred pounds in my 55. Check my signature out below.

Excellent catch on the medication and it having been freshwater Pack!

I really like peppermints. What Pack says is true, they do just hide in a hole all day. Mine have always stayed in holes that I could easily see them in though. However, my Royal Gramma eats them, so I quit keeping them.

That's my tank thread if you want to read through it. I started this like 5 months after I started my tank - that's how long I waited to get corals.

I use these guys for clean up crews: ReefCleaners.org | Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae - Home You feel out a little questionnaire and they make a recommendation then you buy what you want. I followed their recommendation exactly.

I mention documenting the clean up crew process somewhere in my tank thread above too - you might enjoy that bit.
