I have a blood red fire shrimp, and i fed him about an hour ago with the normal marine granules ive been feeding him with for weeks. I walked in and he was hanging upside down in his lil cave (something he does often and i know is normal) but it seemed like he was spitting a bunch of chewed food out. He's recently molted. The only thing i can think of is that a) i changed the salinity from 1.024 to 1.023 recently because i found a better LFS or b) last night my temperature was a little wacky, was up to 83 last night and dropped down to 74. That was at least 10 hours ago though so i'm not really sure. Ideas? I'm testing for ammonia / nitrate / nitrite now, i'll update when its done.

Well i thought that would probably be the answer, but i'm pretty new so i wasn't sure if it could be more serious.

Just out of curiosity what was the cause of the temperature flux? Equipment breakage?

What exactly is that supposed to mean? 1.023 is pretty low for reefs with inverts IMHO.

That is a pretty big temperature swing, that could have a role to play.

Well I went down to 1.023 because the new fish store that came into town and replaced the other one keeps their SW at that. I only have a 3 gal so it's not worth making my own because I would have to super tone down all the math and whatnot. The temp flux is fixed. I had a stock light that would heat it up during the day (and it had been a heat streak where i live) and so i open-topped it and had a fan on it to get the water temp down. I forgot about it and when I woke up the temp had plummeted. New light though so my temp is stable now.
