    hello fellow 3reefers
yesterday we pick up our "new" used tank setup.
It is a 55 gallon tall acrylic tank with a 20 gallon sump.
the sump has a pre-made sock holder, note this sock holder is attached to the sump. there are only 3 slots and i need 2 slots for the return and skimmer (skimmer and return cannot fit in one slot). i need help deciding whether to go with a filter sock or a refugium.

+1,I'm sorry I didn't set my sump plumbing up for socks, however,i'm getting ready to move my tank to another room and that will be taken care of.Depending on how low or hard to get to the sump is can make cleaning all the detritus up a real job.

Yes, felt socks are alot tougher to clean though. Check out bulk reef supply mesh filter socks. Love them.

I took off the sock that came with my sump. The maintenance was too much, especially as it was not easy to get it in or out with the skimmer in the way. Much happier now :) But you can certainly still use one. Get a couple so that you can immediately replace a dirty one with a clean one.

I don't have a room issue with my sump, but I quit using my felt socks a few months ago, manily to try and leave more food for my coral, since I don't spot feed or dose any extra coral food.

Things seem about the same though, and all is well.

I think I my try a mesh sock. Depends how fine the mesh is.
As of now, I do have a large mesh bag on my return pipe to catch the huge bolders.

I also have a mesh bag with GAC in it in my overflow, that I simple rinse our about twice a week.
