Hi. So I just had a question regarding the temperature of my tank which is 83-84.
-My saltwater 10 gallon tank is 18 inch deep topped about 5"-6" away a 40watt light installed for the time being.
-And a 185gph canister filter is running to filter my water.--> On the box of the filter I read that it has a water-cooled motor.

??I was wondering if the filter's motor could've rose the temperature so high that my fish(blue yellowtail damsel) died 5 hours after I installed the new filtration?

**I also had another thread which I explained the process in which i set up my filter-- here it is:

It's quite possible , being you have a very small tank, hence very small body of water.
Try installing a fan in the cabinent pointed towards the canister or ontop of the tank moving air across it.

Pumps will generate heat, but in larger body's of water ( large tanks ) it's fairly negligible.
And if your home is air conditioned that will help to keep temps down as well.

What type filter /pump is it ? And unless the tank is closed off on top I doubt 84 killed the fish Oxygen is depleted rather quickly at temps about 80 but normal gas exchange at the surface should have taken care of the problem . May want to get a power hear or air stone in the tank to agitate the waters surface .
