I only have a couple of BioCube filters left and then I plan on replacing the contents of my last filter with better media. Awhile back I saw on a website where people just rip the filter floss and pull the activated carbon out of the BC filter media and replace it with cheaper (think bulk/long term) filter floss, and carbon or chemicals. They just replace what is inside of the plastic fitler casing that sits in the drip tray.

What seems to be the best type of pad (filter floss w/layers of good stuff), and activated carbon to buy in bulk to make your own filter media out of? Also, what chemicals would be beneficial to add in under the filter floss?

If you ahve a skimmer just put some Chemipure elite in a bag and place under some 200 micron filter floss. Change the filter floss every 10 - 14 days and the chemipure every 2 - 3 weeks. JMHO;)
