the best judge of your filtration media and QTY are your tanks parameters
what is your Nitrate reading? as thats often key IME

If you maintain 0 ammonia and 0 Nitrite, then you have adequate bacteria capacity for those nutrients

if your Nitrates are high, then you have an inbalance , with not enough oxygen deficient real estate for the bacteria that convert Nitrate to Nitrogen gas

if your Nitrate are high, it can also mean you filter maintainance is not adequate, and weekly rinsing of the sponges, and other biological media in used tank water at time of water change , can help with this

let us know why your asking the question
because if you dont have a water quality issue, then your not doing anything wrong IMO

Hi Steve, nice to get ur answer. My tank parameter is almost in rh8 condition xcept Ph. Ph is 8.0. Now i am using ph up solution for this. I am asking about filter media bcoz some person use activated carbon as filter media. but my LFS told me that it can reduce the density of water. And I am very new in this salty hobby. So want to learn more.
