It happens to my tank as well. It's always a good sign that the flow in my overflow box has slowed down or stopped. I'm just sick of dealing with this overflow box flow issue, sick of restarting it. I wish I could drill my tank and get rid of the overflow box, but that's not an option.

But yeah, a overflow box would be the answer.

The paper towel trick sounds like it makes sense.

Well the problem i'm having Peredhil is it's a sea clone model pos skimmer and it has a giant maxijet pump in my tank, the little betta tank i have now will fit the pump almost perfect(what was my chances of that??)but like i mentioned,it's gonna hog a bunch of room.Mabey i can stack rock up against it to hide it some.Should have it in place later today. But on the otherhand,i do very frequent maintenece,so throwing a towel on top wouldn't be a big deal either.I am going to go ahead and build the box to see how it does and go from there. Thanks for the help!!

    OIC.

Another solution is to increase your surface agitation. Point a power head directly at surface and really tear up the water surface. That'll take care of it too... (but not via removing it).

i do have a powerhead w/difuser shooting right at the top,it blows a big hole in the film, but i guess i'm looking for a way really reduce it or remove it all together,so that makes perfect sense

Have you considered drilling the back of the tank rather than the bottom? I've seen a few people do it that way. You don't have to drain the whole tank, just a few inches, drill the hole, and plumb it.

Send BP the bill for labor and parts.
