Thats great for people like you who have float valves and ATO systems. I am not one of those people. I fill up two 5 gals jugs with R/O water for my top off.;D Honestly, I dont trust ATO systems b/c I've heard many horror stories when the float switches go bad. Not only do you flood your house, but you turn your SW tank into a FW tank.

do you know of any threads that reflect this? I cant find any, and I would really like to learn from others mistakes rather than my own.

    Oh, the temptation......

Ok, you guys are scaring me. I don't even have my RO unit in yet and am worried about flooding now! We hopefully will be able to install it next weekend. You guys may have to help us with this - I know nothing about float valves!

Wow, Luna. I'm surprised that in your 10+ years in the hobby, you've resisted the ATO system.

If done correctly, you literally have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than flooding your house.

In another thread, there's a bit of discussion about this. If you have an RO/DI with an ASOV (most do), and float valve you can attach to your sump, add a solenoid valve to the equasion, and you'll be headache free.

For disaster to strike in such a scenario, both the float valve and the solenoid valve must fail. There is such a small chance of this happening, that the "risk" far outweighs the work involved in lugging water around.

I'll make you a deal, my friend. If you'd like to delve into it, I'l come over and we'll hook it up together.

Dude, for the life of me I cant remember where I read it, but it had to be here at 3reef b/c I dont go anywhere else. But this is not from human error, this is from defective float swicthes, auto shut-off valves and so on.
