I've had my new yellow tang for 4 days now, and he is still very shy and stressed. He has horizontal white stripes down his sides, which I know are indicative of stress.

Anyway, he won't eat anything I put in the tank - not flakes, frozen brine shrimp, or mysis shrimp. But he will graze on the purple nori that I put on a clip in his tank. My question is this - if I continue giving him the nori, will this prevent him from learning to eat the other food? Should I let him get a little hungry and try flakes, or should I leave well enough alone?

I just went through about the same thing. The Tangs are natural grazers and can go for a while without eating food that you are trying to give him. Just stay persistent without adding too much of a bio load and he will get there. Good Luck
