I've seen these feathery things sticking out from under one of my mushrooms but today saw them FEEDING something. I can't see what's under the mushroom but I did clearly see a mouth in the center of the frilly "arms" and saw different arms randomly bend and insert themselves into the mouth then pull out. I have a picture with one of the arms bent and in the mouth.

Any ideas on what might be under my mushroom???

I've added more pictures although the camera only wanted to focus on the mushroom. The first kind of shows how it's attached to the rock with a bulb/ball shaped foot/body?

The other one is a mouth shot. It also appears to have 8 main arms with the feathery branching on each. Does that help firm up if it's a Basket Star???

That looks like my Sea Apple. Less colorful though. It does the same thing. Grab and eat. Grab and eat. Very cool thing to watch. If you want to continue to feed it, phytoplankton will work. They take very, very small food stuffs out of the water column. If memory serves, even a baby pod would be too big for it to digest.

I actually just started adding phytoplankton to my tank because I have two fan worms now. Good to know that may help with this creature as well. I also put a video on you tube and if you watch closely you can see it feeding.

    Hope it survives!

The guy at my LFS gets basket stars in from time to time. He had 2-3 in this last week - very cool creatures.

I've got something like that in my tank (always called it a barnical, it looks like the one's on the oregon coast) Like a little volcano with a feather arm that reaches out, grabs stuff floating in my water and then disapears.
