    Hi Guys,

I know that it isn't uncommon for a feather duster to drop its crown. I added two to my tank a couple of weeks ago and one of them seems to have lost a few strands of his crown. Is this normal shedding or is it a sign of something to come (i.e. dropping his crown)? I have been target feeding them with phytoplankton once a week. Thanks in advance!!!!

i have a bunch of them, its common and they do drop the outer ring of their crown once in awhile. do you have a flame angel? if its just a couple of strands maybe the flameangel or drawf angelfish is pecking at it.

    i wouldnt be too worried

Thanks for the reply. I don't have an angel but if anyone is nipping at it, it would be my large clown. I have seen her nip at my lavender mushroom. I just wonder if they are getting enough food. Thanks!!!

Perhil has a huge and very informative thread on Feather Duster's look it up. There is some good info and pictures concerning Feather Duster's in his post.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at my tank and saw a cluster of hermit crabs in the corner. It looks like the top came off. I don't know what just the top looks like though. I can't imagine the crabs swarming over nothing but didn't know. Can anyone tell me if just the top came off or if the thing is dead? I will probably wait a week or two to see if I see any change, but was just wondering. Thanks!!!
