I have a Hawaiian Feather Duster that is open and happy looking 99% of the time and has been with me since the start. I noticed recently that the tube is starting to fall apart. He is still open and looking great--Is he OK? or does he re-generate a new tube???-I will post pics if needed.

They can regenerate a new tube. Its actually a mucus like deal they secrete. As long as its plume looks good I wouldnt worry

Your welcome! I had a feather duster for a few months, but it didnt make it after I had to move (and move the tank). But they are definitely little creatures. If anything goes too bad, the plume will start to look bad. If it gets worse, they will release their plumes all together. The shells can be developed fairly quickly at will.
    What are you feeding it?

the tube is made of sand and poo and mucus and they can remake one with no problems

I was feeding micro-vert 1/3 recommended dose 3 times a week cause of the "juice" from my frozen shrimp cubes. Worm has been thriving since day 1

Well the main ingredient in concrete is sand, and the main ingredient in feather duster tubes is also sand. ;D

i actually had some body say you can tell if a feather duster is healthy or not, by breaking off the back of its tube(just a little bit) and the duster should close the hole in a couple hours.

never had the guts to do it always afraid it would hurt the worm
