This may be a daft question to ask but I'm going to ask it anyway :p
I have some feather caulpera that is growing very fast in my refugium which is on a reverse photo period. Now I have seem somewhere that you need to be careful when pruning, however I have not been able to find a correct way (if there is one) of pruning!

    Any thoughts on this?

Actually, I lied....I use a spaghetti server to yank the stuff out because our macro is usually full of worms and other creepy crawlies that I'd rather not touch because IT'S GROSS

I was scared away from calerpia by my lfs. They said that it will die and pollute my tank, killing everything in it. What is the story on it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I originally wanted to grow it in my refuge to feed to my yellow tang with the filtering a nice extra. I currently have a ball of cheto in my refuge.

There are some that say that calurpa will go sexual and release toxins into your tank but if it's regularly "harvested" this will not likely happen. I've been keeping refugiums with nothing but calurpa for many years and have never had this happen.

More profit in the Cheado and such.. what where they pushing ? Cheado is not near as effective or efficient as Caulpera's are. I have heard and read more about that Bull then I ever wanted to.. Been ruining the Caulpera for 20 yr and never had it to do what its said to do .. Its never died out yet or went sexual ..But I never ran it 24/7 either..and I keep it cut back

I bought the calerpia from a different store than my usual. When I told my friend at the regular lfs, she was telling me to take it out of the tank asap. I just want to have a food source for my tang, which the harvesting sounds like it would take care of the sexual issue. I have my refuge on opposite as the tank. Thanks.

I use it in my sea horse tank and in my fuge. Just keep trimming it every so often and never had a problem and I am running reverse photo on lights also.

In the seahorse tank my urchins just found it and they like it so right now there is a kind of balance they eat a little it grows a little...
