I have not been able to kill my green favia, and trust me it hasn't been from lack of trying. I have a torch(same family as your hammer) that is more finacky than the favia. The favia is my slowest grower but indistructable.

depends completely on the light you have... the more powerful then the faster it will grow. I have mine on sand bed under 175W halide and it grows reallly fast! also mine is very puffy on the exterior skin. I have seen others under worse lights that look like bare skin and bones however.

They pick up particles with their feeder tentacles to help with growth also

Favia are pretty easy to take care of. They need low to moderate lights and can be fed when you see their feeding tentacles out. I have two types in my tank. The one took a while to start growing fast, but then took off. The other has a nice, constant rate of growth.

if you feed them it helps to, light will make them grow but some mysis or brine when the feeders are out will keep your fish safe hehe
