Im planning on putting my display tank upstairs and my sump on the basement...I was to move about 1200 GPH. From my basement floor to the top of my tank is 13 feet. Any suggestions on a pump

I dont know much about this.. but Im sure your going to need a pump in the 4000gph range to get 1200gph in your tank.. maybe theres a graph you can look for.. thats going to be a pricey pump.. I wonder if you could link 2 pumps together.. have a basement sump pump and another inline on the second floor?

For external pumps, Reeflo pumps are very weel thought of. Your application could go with a Barracuda http://www.reeflopumps.com/flowbiasedpumps.html (click on the flow charts link at the bottom of the page) If your pump is going to sit on the basement floor and discharge at the top of the tank that gives you 13' of head pressure but I would plan for a bit more once you add in friction loss from our plumbing. You can also throttle these pumps back without hurting them. At 16' of head, you'd get 1810gph and draw 237W. This would give you some flow to spare to route through UV, carbon, phos reactor, or whatever else strikes your fancy down the line.
Another option would be a Wahoo which is one of ReeFlo's pressure biased pumps. It would flow 1466gph at 15' of head which is a bit closeer to what you spec'd in your question but the pump draws 270W under that load so I would be inclined to go with the Barracuda -- more flow with less power consumption.

BTW, a Barracuda is what I'm getting ready to put on my new set-up.

For anyone who believes in the more power school of thought, there's always the Manta Ray --4800 gph at 11' of head. ReeFlo Pumps If you want one, send me a PM, my LFS has one that's barely used. It kept blowing the corals off the rock in his 1200gal reef tank.

Ive got a reeflo sting ray and it is running with a 12-15' head and providing TONS of flow. I would say reeflo is the way to go, although I have heard of more efficient pumps...

if you have a lot of head to get by, make sure to get one of their pressure biased pumps...

These are two charts I found on google images. Should give you an Idea of how big a pump to get

It looks like you need about 4,000 GPH
