I have thought about it before (when considering what size tank I wanted), but I'm sittin here now, and if you think about how much your tank weighs, its a heck of a lot!

I have a 55 gallon - figure 5 less gallons because Its not filled to the brim... (less or more for your smaller or larger tanks)...

I'll figure an extra 10 pounds for equipment *lights heater powerheads, and life forms...

    So...

    50 gallons - 417.27 pounds.
    Salt - 15 pounds
    Sand - 50 pounds
    Live Rock - 50 pounds
    Can Filter - 25 pounds

    = 562 Pounds!

Add more for your sumps/refugiums, etc...

I've had motorcycles that weighed less...

What are you guys weighin in at?

    Stand and Tank=220 lbs.
    equipment 12lbs.

    so about 900 lbs.!

40 gallon breeder, which is actually right at 48 gallons of water, with 20 gallon refugium, which has about 15 gallons in it
    526 lbs of water
    about 20 pounds of salt
Stand and tanks, about 75 pounds
    40 pound of live sand
    40 pounds of live rock
    about 15 pounds of equipment
Total is roughly 715 pounds + or - 15 pounds

You're forgetting that the rock & sand will displace water out of the tank.

When i lived in my old Apt and was using a 110g tank+15g sump and a 10g fuge i was shaking in my boots as i was filling it up. I remember doing a lot of research on how much wight my floor could hold and where the best place is to put my tank ect... Nothing ever happened but I'm glad to be out of there and in a much stronger/modern building. that tank w/everything included was probably a good half-ton.
Im using my 56g now and its about 500lb and on a rock solid foundation so i can breath easy.

Never really cared actually. My large tank is 200 pounds empty and should clear 2,000 pounds now. my sump and fuge are in the basement so that weight doesn't count I guess. Since the tank is sitting on 12 square feet that weight is then just 180 pounds per square foot - or less than me where I stand :) Not so much a concern any longer.....Yeah, the weight adds up but its also dispersed on a decent foot print, which most homes are build to sustain.

weight is something a person in a trailer wood wory about, but hear is a better question?
what is the lbs per square inch on your flor ? most stands have small legs and feet underthem .so your 55 at 900 lbs is nearley 225 lbs to each foot on the stand.
