No water is evaporating b/c it is covered, so it won't need it. It's not good or bad, it's only bad when you need to top off and don't.

only every week or two (depending on ambient temp and humidity) would I have to top off my 14 BC.

    Totally normal.

What temp is the water? Seems odd to me that you say you never have to top it off. I am curious, I am a detective at heart and a mystery to me must be solved. Are there stock lights and the fans still in the canopy?

Perhaps not much surface agitation coupled with a closed top coupled with frequent (weekly) water changes?

If you have a closed top and do weekly WC I think I could see that being normal.

Agreed. My old 24 nano never neede to be topped off before I drilled and plumbed in a sump/fuge. I did weekly WC's of 10%. The hood and fans functioned properly so, 14 BC may not need top offs if it is covered like said above.

I would just note that it is important to test the salinity in a situation like this, as it is in any situation. If the tank is never topped off, and a weekly WC is performed, I can foresee the salinity creeping up over time due to the little bit that is evaporated gets replaced by SW.

    Just something to consider. . . .
