An ATO then a dosing pump is next on my list. I am topping off 1 to 1 1/2 gallons a day. I add 40 ml of my to part to each 1/2 gallon when I top off.

I lose 1/2g a day on my 29g(no sump). I am setting up a 75g reef with 55g sump and assume I will lose about 3-4g per day in evap. I should be getting my ATO stuff this weekend.

Why not dyi an auto top off? costs only 30$ plus a container for the water. Plenty of videos on you tube to show you how.

Well I understand the ato / the sump and all the other stuff but then I read about all the problems { washed out tanks-over flowed sumps and such ] I'll just look at my tank a few minutes a day and I will be happy.

Redundant fail-safes are good options for putting an ATO together.

Your tank/sump system should be able to handle the entire volume of your ATO reservoir without overflowing. This way - if the ATO sensor fails and your pump stays on for too long - you will not have a flood.

Also - you will want at least one sensor operating the ability of the reservoir pump to turn on. This way if the reservoir is too low - the pump will not run and be burned out and potentially cause a much bigger problem.

For nearly the same price, I went with the JBJ ATO module for both my 30 and 120 gallon tanks - best purchased I have made for the tanks to date.
