I just got my Current USA Nova Extreme 24'' 2x24W fixture three days ago and the tank is looking spectacular !! ;D

But I am noticing something that i new would happen..

    To much evaporation??

Ive heard people say that they add about 3 quarts of water per day but is that saltwater or normal RODI water?

My temp in the tank is 78
and my house is around 76

Another thing, I dont have a hood on the tank and i have a lot of surface agitation so i know thats causing more evaporation but my main questions are..

    Is my evaporation rate ok?
and when i add water.. since it is daily evaporation should it be salt or RODI cause what I am evaporating is about 2 to 3 quarts of water per day..

It is RODI water, the minerals in the water do not evaporate out. If you add salt water you will keep increasing your salinity and cause problems in your tank.

The rate does not sound bad. I replace about 8 to 9 gallons a week on my 75.

use ro/di water for topping off. and that rate seems normal to me.

    ohh ok thanks ! :)

Just wanted to know :) and another question..

If im adding 3 quarts of RODI water daily and i do my 20% water change every 15 days.

will that affect my 1.25 salinity ?

Also be careful of which fish you stock; there are a number that will jump out of an open top when given a chance.

Since salt does not evaporate, the only change in salinity will be when you have a lot of evaporation. When this happens, your salinity will go up. When you add RO/DI water to the original level, the salinity will be back to its original state.

Your salinity will go up as water evaporates and back down when you do your top off; not significantly mind you.

If you mix your water change water to the same salinity as your tank water, your tank water will not change.
