The nice thing about a Ca reacotr is that they only "dose" the Ca that the tank uses, no need to dial it down, just dial it in.

If you have a ton of LPS, and no SPS, your ca consumption will be more than typical water changes can keep up with. SPS definitely add to the Ca consumption quickly though.

On a side note, if your CA is as high as 550, your alkalinity would have to be out of whack. That would stunt coral growth more than anything. Even a constant level of 440 of ca is a bit high to hae proper alk levels.

I love Ca reactors since they do all the hard dirty work for you. They automatically "dose" the proper amounts of Ca, Alk, and magnesium ans well as strontium with certain media with extremely little work. That is provided you use a ph controller on that reactor.

I sent the Koralia 3's back and ordered a couple of 2's. I have a Coralife Super Skimmer 65. I'll probably just do the two part dosing for ca. I have started a build thread under 29 gallon build thread. Check it out, pictures pictures pictures. What is a good phosphate reactor for this size tank?

Two little fishies phosphate reactor and a MaxiJet 1200. Dirt cheap and works very well.

This is what I use, I like it because it's much sturdier and uses very standard fittings so it's easy to maintain/replace everything on it. You'll need a maxijet 900 to run it as well.
