It's always sad when such a long-lived, well-established business goes under... That's never a good thing.

they had been struggling in recent years, looking back they never seemed to be bringing in much new stock and had a lot of tanks constantly empty especially in the saltwater. I'm guessing now it was due to lack of funds.

It is a shame I would take my son there very often to feed the large Koi in the pond and we would almost always come home with something be it fish food, fish or some sort of fish tank decor.

I always appreciated being able to got a locally owned store where I know my money is staying in the community.

I use to visit capitol Aquarium, granted it wasn't in their prime but they were still nice aside from when I brought in a fish and they took it directly from the bag I had and dumped it in to a tank with no temp or water conditioning. After that I was repulsed. During my visits they didn't seem to have much stock in their salt water tanks and the freshwater tanks had the same ole same ole. I had better luck getting things from O street aquarium just around the corner.

I wont bash capitol they had nice things but a bad experience tends to hamper your views on a store.

As for keeping my fish funds local I go to Woodland Aquarium and visit john regularly, I'm having him find my fish to stock my tank. It's a little slow since his wholesaler didn't have the fish I requested in stock this time but I'm in no rush.

I go to O St probably every week, always been treated very fair in there. have you ever been to Aqua Works over off of Power Inn on Belvedere?

The only place I've ever been in Woodland was a Pet Extreme to buy pet food.

Woodland Aquarium is on Lincoln and I think third? it's a house hard to miss really. Pet extreme is good for dry foods and such maybe a few inverts (snails mostly) I haven't been to Aqua works no, off power inn you say? (after taking a moment to look it up) Yeah thats a bit far away from me I live in woodland so O street is about as far as i like going heh. (just noticed it's like 10 min from O street. I might just go there)

O St & Aqua Works are owned by the same family. (Aunt runs one, Nephew runs the other).

I'm going to have to run up to Woodland as I live in Natomas so it's not that much further to go to Woodland in lieu of O St though truth be told O St has given me such great service that I'm pretty loyal to them.

Well I'm still new to the whole saltwater aquarium thing but I enjoy it so far. John at woodland aquarium likes to talk. He's very knowledged about fish, not sure about corals and such since he doesn't carry any in his tanks. his salt section has dwindled but he seems to keep afloat. I use him to get some of the easier to get species of fish but I'll be going to O street for my corals. I've bought plenty of fish from them and though it's quite a drive I still enjoy staring deeply in to their tanks.

Never knew it was the same family.. you learn something new every day.

I would have to say john is great for freshwater fish though he doesn't carry much in the way of dry supplies. I get black worms weekly for my peacock eel from him.
