I did siphon some of it as well as well as manually trying to pick pieces out. Thanks for the link and the responses. What do you mean burn a ball?

i dunno what is in those thermometers but had one break really early in my tank. picked up the small glass pieces and tiny black balls all stuck to the magnet scraper.

gotto switch to a thermal probe. way better.

I will try to run my mag float over it and see if the pieces adhere to the magnet. Any ideas on what side they will adhere to, north or south pole of the magnet?

Either side is fine. If the item is ferrous and not magnetized it will stick to any magnetic pole. If it already has a slight magnetic field the little balls will just spin around and stick them selves the right way

I just did a 10 gallon water change and used the mag float to pick up some of the stuff and it worked quite well. I also siphoned the area and got the majority of the material out I hope.

What should I look for if there is an adverse reaction in the tank? Smaller polyp extension? What about for fish?

By burning the ball, they mean literally throwing it in a fire, the colour of the flames will tell you what kind of metal it is. But I would assume they are so small that you wouldn't notice the colour change in the flames.

That is true, they are quite small. I can always give it a try though. Thanks
