A buddy wants me to take two of his ermerald crabs and I don't know if they will be suitable for my tank. It's a 55G tank with live rocks and fish with a bunch of red legged hermits and margarita and turbo snails. Will they eat up my snails?

They probably won't eat the snales but crabs are opportunistic so anything is possible. I have one in a 55 and he has been very peacefull and also reclusive. I get to watch him a couple times a week at most.

Ask yourself why he wants to get rid of them.lol. they are cool when they are small but i have had trouble with mine once they got big. I saw one ripping my zoas off a rock to eat whatever was under them. Now as i see them i take them out and give them to my lfs.

    My experience as well.

Whenever I have more than one, they die off until I have only one. Not sure why that is. Probably food availability....

If you have bubble algae, and they aren't large get them. If they are large, they do get into a bit of trobule but are cool to watch. My large ones would eat a bit of coraline algae but it never bothered me because it grows like crazy anyway. I used to have bubble algae but added 4 emeralds to my tank and once in a while I have one bubble show up they missed .......then the sailfin attacks it..popping, it so the emeralds keep that undercontrol. When they get real large I trade them in.
