Just a FYI, i've syphoned the bed for the past 2 months to clean it up in anticipation of this so, do you still think its a bad idea to do it parted out?

Honestly, you need to decide if the risk is worth it to you. Personally, I would drain the tank, move the livestock to a holding tub and remove everything just to be safe. The question is, if you are wrong and there is still enough crud in your sandbed to crash your tank, are going to be able to accept the consequences?

When it comes to my tanks and customer's tanks, I believe in being safe and not sorry.

Good point! This is why i love this forum, it allows me to be told i'm an idiot politely. So, I do have enough water change tubs to do it right. So I will. thx guys. gotta wait for the sand and rock anyways.

Vut thx alex, the wrasse is a top priority.

Yeah, I know what I SHOULD do, I was just trying to justify the easy way. The CC isn't an issue yet, but I'd rather bite the bullet before it becomes one. Now I'm hating that my MJ1200 burned out. Only have a little hydor 200 for the task.

Ww really? I have MJ's that are 10 years old, never cleaned, and almost in continuous use that haven't burned out!

Get a little piece of acrylic or plastic to separate the cc from the sand when you remove the cc. Also if you do it in thirds with your time line you shouldn't have to drain the tank. I Know people who have removed without draining it. But its ultimately up to you and what your comfortable with. :)

Yeah thing shorted out during a water change, smelled awful. Only 4 or 5 months old and only used for wc's.
