    Welcome to 3reef! :)

As for the paint I would just use a razor blade to clean it then paint it again using black or blue paint so you don't have to mess with a background getting water behind it.

Drill the tank as you will thank yourself later on that you did.

Clean the tank with bleach when your done to kill any bacteria that is hidden up in the cracks.

I have changed a top of a 55g and it was not hard, just use a blade to cut into the silicone on the inside and outer rim before you pull. Should be no problem.

Welcome to 3reef! unless you plan on keeping a FOWLR, I'd ditch the pc's and get some good lights... oh and a protein skimmer too.....:)

otty, yeah I dont think that the top should be hard to change out at all. The LFS that offered to drill my tank said if its less than 5 years old, if they break it, its their problem, if its older, its my problem. I am considering just doing it myself if it is over 5 years old.

cuttingras, I plan on eventually making it to reef. I figured I would use the PC untill I can afford 2 halides and some t-5 lighting, that and designing a canopy to fit those in! I figure the PC will work to grow coraline and get the live stuff to spread off my seed rock onto the base rock I will use. As for the skimmer, I plan on getting one for the sump, havent looked into which to get yet.

thanks for the welcome everyone else. I think I may need to start another thread for advice sometime lol

well there ya go! :) post some pics!! don''t forget, unless you already have one, a good protein skimmer. I use the AquaC Remora on my 55 and it does a great job(and I didn't have to sell my house to get it).
