I have a 90g tank thats been setup since beginning of February so almost 3 months now. It started with strictly dead rock and RO/DI water. I used seachem stability and piece of shrimp to cycle the tank. I let it cycle for 2-3 weeks and checked levels consistently until I got zero readings on all.

Around mid-March I got a pair of clowns and shortly after a powder tang. Did biweekly water changes. Long story short, the tang passed away last week (ich). I took it out the morning of but since then I've had increases in all my reading levels which has caused one of my clownfish to get small white specks all over him and a filmy layer over his eyes. So far its not looking good.

    pH- 8.2
    salinity - 1.024
    temp - 78*
    ammonia - 0.25-0.50
    nitrite - 0.25
    nitrate - 20
    (API test kit)

Tank has a filter sock, protein skimmer, carbon and GFO in reactor, and a UV skimmer. Got my CUC from John at reefcleaners

Pretty sure my bioload was to much (already mad i didn't consider this beforehand) and my tank is going through another mini cycle. I did a 20g water change yesterday. Is there any recommendations that anybody can make? I think my main problem now is the ammonia and would like to get that solved as quickly as possible. I've searched around and have heard water changes, possibly seachem prime might be places to start. Please chime in with any other suggestions or thoughts

    Appreciate the time, thanks

live bacteria you can get it at your local fish store i like start smart. also always keep on had their product called optimizer ( also live bacteria) the optimizer i use when there is an upset in the tank. havent needed it as much lately i have been leaving things alone. not moving rocks and such. the optimizer is also good t o use after a coral or fish dies. both products are from TLC

clowns can get ich too cant they?
if yours currently has it from the tang that already passed, would someone with more ich experience than me suggest quarantine or hyposal for it? or some other treatment that might work in tank if theres nothing much else in there?
    good luck

you say your bio-load is high. what fish do you have? What do you feed, how much and how often?

A powder tang and a couple clowns doesn't sound like to much bioload.. How long has your tank been running? Perhaps your cycle wasn't fully complete. Mini cycles are somewhat normal a few weeks after your initial cycling.

Set up a quarantine tank. Keep new fish in there for at least 2 weeks. Soak their food in garlic to build up their immune system. It'll save you a lot of heartache and help prevent ant future fish losses. Also can be used as an hospital tank if any fish do happen to get sick..

only ro/di. i have a kent marine unit at home

pair of yellow-banded maroon clowns and the powder brown tang that died last week. i feed American Reef's HPD (high performance diet). I put 1-2 drops of garlic in the food when i make it. feed once every 2 days

Tank was up since start of February. Fish weren't introduced until mid-march.

i have debated setting up a quarantine tank multiple times. i will strongly consider once I get this tank back under control. i've read that there are still times when people will quarantine their new fish and they can still get sick when placed in (especially tangs since they are so susceptible) Also the way i have my rockwork, my fish have so many hiding spots I think it would be very hard to get them out of the display and into the quarantine even if they did get sick. But like i said i will consider!

Thank's for everyone's input. I will run by the LFS and see if they have any smart start or live bacteria that can help get the tank through the mini cycle
