Naive electrical experience here, but with a LOT of power cords trying to connect to 1 outlet (with 2 sockets) and at most one other, how do you figure the max amount of things we can connect to a power strip?

im no expert but i think it all depends on how many amps you are pulling through one outlet(2 sockets)

You need to add up how much electricity (amps) each device uses. A typical home outlet is rated at 15 amps. Be sure to count other non-aquarium devices that may be on the same circuit but plugged into different outlets. The total amps must be less the 15 and ideally around 10 or less for margin.

Powerheads don't use much. Lights, heaters, chillers and some return pumps use a lot.

The actual number of things plugged in isn't really very important. It's a matter of total amps being drawn.

My tank's circuit also shares with a couple of overhead lights and another outlet around the corner that has a night light (indigo) and a laptop charger plugged in. So i would want to count these things too.
