So I'm tired of my Mag12 and it's heat; I want to downsize to drop my tank temp a couple degrees.

The current Mag12 is dialed back a bit, somewhere in the realm of 20-30% (via a ball-valve, hence why I can't give an exact number), and faces about 5' of head. This means I'm somewhere around 800gph on the output. The Mag12 also consumes 110W of power (unrestricted, of course).

So I can't decide between the Eheim 1262 or Sicce Syncra 4.0. Price doesn't really weigh in, as there isn't much difference. The big difference is the power consumption (read heat generation) and the flow. The Sicce consumes 5 more watts (85 v. 80), but puts out a little bit more flow (950 v. 900 at 0'; which will be just a little bit more at 5' of head).

Thoughts? It doesn't seem like there's many people in this part of the world running the Sicce's yet, as they fairly new to our shores. Trying to place an order in a couple hours...

    Interesting; good to hear.

I took a look at your thread, wondering how you get a cost different of $50 between those. I get $100? What's your secret? :)

Also, stupid question here, but from what I can find, the barb on the Eheim comes off, leaving 3/4" FPT, correct?

Aquacave had it onsale, and I got 10% off...not like that anymore. :( Most Mag's you can get new off eBay cheaper than stores, but Eheim's generally not the case.

Suction and discharge are both 3/4" FPT.

So looks like I'm getting steered towards the 1262....

My only concern was it possible being a little short on the flow. At 5': 1262 - 675; Sicce - 740. Enough to matter? Eheim should run a little cooler...

For what it's worth: sump is 27gallons, DT is 120. Aquamaxx 250 skimmer in the sump (which uses sedra 9000 (900gph) pump).

Your return pump isn't where your tank really gets flow from. 675 is fine with your sump.

I'm aware; just wanted to make sure the monster skimmer would see enough turn-over. I don't believe the 10-20x of the sump size really applies in this out-of-proportion situation. ;)

    Thank you.

Ordered the 1262, I'll put it in on Thursday.

Tired of my tank being at 83-84 and making me nervous.

Predictions for the new running temp?
