Has anyone been using these long enough to have an opinion of which mode coral grows best in? Waves, reef crest, lagoon?

I would guess that it might depend on your tank's overall size and how much flow total you have in there and also what types of coral you're trying to grow.
When I was researching Tunze vs Vortech for my new system I found most people running Vortechs used the Reef Crest mode, but whether that is really the best, who knows. Just theorycrafting in my head I thought some tanks might actually do better in lagoon mode so they get the maximum flow amount for longer periods of time at once which might help hit some low-flow corners of the tank or something.
If you have the MP40W it probably also really depends whether you have them synched or anti-synched with any other pumps what type of flow you're going to get out of them.

With all that said, I'm going to start my new system with anti-synched reef crest, one pump on each end of the tank. :)
