Hey guys, I was woundering if anyone has, or has thought of getting MH off ebay?? I was looking through what was there, and saw a 400 watt "grow" light with balist, and reflecter. Now cant I just buy that, and put a reef light in it?? It was only 159 bucks. I could mount two of those guys in a canopy with some fans and have good lighting for like 350 400 bucks. Let me know what you think,

Thats a HPS ballast with a converson bulb for a metal halide. So you would only be able to run a converson bulb(unknown or low k). Just find one thats just MH.

    hey Birchell,
I mentioned this in your clown fish post as for i saw it first and u were talking lights. a couple good sites I have found for lighting are below if it helps. I spent a lot of time shopping around, but if you don't need name brand and aren't afraid of retro fit the prices are pretty hard to beat.

I bought all my lights here.

Same site but this is one of the 2 400w mh i am using and they have been good to me so far.

The ballast should start a M/H alright but the reflector is not a good one for a reef light.. Wrong type M/H are not that expensive . I just brought up 3. 400 w M/H ballast same ones that are in the Box from Hamilton for less then 115.00 for all three. A good parabolic reflector made for a reef about 20.00 and I mount my 8.00 Moguls into a aluminum outside elect. switch box with a S.S switch face plate to hold the base very strong and never any wobble .. Box and plate at a supply house 1.89
    400 transformer 37.00
    base socket 8.00
    mounting box 1.25
    face plate 0.79
Aquarium prices to me are like with men and womens clothes LOL women will pay twice as much so they charge twice as much. But the Guy on flea bay is not getting rich but he is making a few $$$ and thats fine with me .

I got one from ebay... 400w mh with whatever kelvin bulb you want. It says it can do a 1000w/400w/250w/175w too. Mogul socket and works with hps/se. Works well. I'm pleased. It was dif then the one you listed though.

WOW, thanks Blade Runner, thats a great deal!! That is what ive been looking for. I dont care if it is used, or reman, I just want to get some lighting. Im pretty good with wiring, so Im not worried about that. 2 175 watt MH, and 1 400 watt should be enough light for the 100 gallon, lol. I mite tone that down, but it just sounds cool, ha. Do you think that 2 250 or 2 175 watt 14k-20k light would work on the 100 with mainly softies, and lps? I will probably have one or two 65 watt actinic PC lights in there too. Let me know what you think,

    Michael
