I wan't to switch out my aquaclear 30 filter and replace it with an aquaclear 70. The 30 is from my old tank and i used it at first in an attempt to not shock everything when they got put into my 55G. Well it's been up and running for 3 months now and i want to up the size of the filter to match the increased tank size. Problem i'm having is i can't have both going at once because my tank rim has 2 places you can hang stuff or else its too thick. My skimmer uses one and my aquaclear 30 the other. Will taking the 30 off and putting a fresh unused 70 cause any problems?? i don't want to put anything in shock. my plan was to run both for awhile and then get rid of the 30 once some benificial bacteria formed in the new one. what do you think??

It shouldn't be any problem at all than. The bacteria amount in your filter is nothing compared to what is living in your live rock. The bacteria in the rock should adjust faster than you can test and easily handle the fish load. If it doesn't, there's always a water change to get levels back to normal.

The only dumb question is one not asked or one you already knew the answer to.

yeah i am more especially concerned now that i am keeping a powder brown tang. the last two weeks it's been great, seems to fit in and love the setup but i know how easy it is for an outbreak of ich to happen. right now i am just running the new filter in my hospital tank. salinity is right but thats about as far as that goes...its new and unused as well

I'm not sure but i think my aquaclear 30 has some Macro algae growing from the output. just noticed now...its all different colors some long red stuff going into the tank... just some things i've noticed. If my live rock can handle it then i'll switch it in the morning. thanks for the advice
