3 weeks ago all of my fish died from what I thought was Ich brought on from a powder brown. The tang showed white spots, went away, came back yada yada yada... The only reason I think it was something else was the fact that it killed everything in like 5 days. I lost 2 clowns, a dottyback and the tang. My question is, I am 3weeks into letting my DT go fallow, will this kill other parasites or is it only good for ich?

In the mean time I have set up my QT tank and it is fish ready. I am planning on 4 weeks of QT for any new additions and am thinking of treating with copper as a prophylaxis, thoughts on that? Necessary, or overkill?

I am hoping to pick up a fish in the next week so when my DT is ready, so will be the fish.

    Thanks in advance!

I want to say, that it is 3 months of fallow for to kill off ich completely... well, as close as you can get anyways.

As for copper.... if you ever want coral or inverts, don't let it get within 10 feet of that tank.

Oh, no, the copper is for the QT tank and won't go anywhere near the DT.

In the past I've used copper in my DT, and I keep coral in it now without issue. If you use copper in the DT, you need to do a massive WC when done (I've done 75%+) and run carbon to remove the rest. It must work as I've not killed any coral in my tanks and the tank tests zero for copper.

As far as using copper in your QT, I wouldn't unless an issue presents itself that needs copper to resolve it. Otherwise it's just overkill, and copper can also shorten the life of your livestock. Just my opinion, but don't use it unless necessary.
