Has anyone ever used drift wood to aquascape their tank?
I plan to use drift wood instead of PVC to attach my LR to.
Is this a good idea? Or don't take a chance the driftwood?

I have heard in the past it was not a good idea to use drift wood due to leaching problems. Once again (I have only heard this) and it may not be 100% true.

drift wood will leech tanins and discolor you water, i would say if want a swampy tank it would work.

btw you want bogwood not driftwood. driftwood floats

I have a small piece of wood (like a little branch) attached to one of my rocks. Hasn't affected anything - some coralline is growing on it too.

hey guys thanks for the replies.
I know it leaches and tans the water but I've had pieces of driftwood in a freshwater set up for a while. It did tan the water but after some time passed, it no longer lets out tans.

If the driftwood gets water logged wouldn't it sink?

Besides tanning the water, in what other way would it be unsafe?
It will be cool to see some pics when you can Larry.

I pictured the coraline growing on them in my head while I was picking up the pieces.

Here's a picture of my branch. Gives character, hasn't degraded or rotted at all. I have notice no discoloration or adverse affects. Then again, I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, and it's kind of small (not a log / big piece of driftwood) and I do run carbon.

Thanks! Post some pics up once you get them in. Would like to see what it looks like once you get them in there.
